{"id":12,"date":"2011-05-18T22:57:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-19T03:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/puzzle-peace.com\/?p=12"},"modified":"2011-05-18T23:54:12","modified_gmt":"2011-05-19T04:54:12","slug":"corner-piece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/puzzle-peace.com\/?p=12","title":{"rendered":"Corner Piece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ll start with the easy stuff.\u00a0 Originally, I\u2019m a farm girl from small town Saskatchewan.\u00a0 Now I\u2019m a 34 year old woman from Winnipeg.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve been married to my high school sweet heart for 16 years this month.\u00a0 We have an 11 year old daughter and a 4 year old son.\u00a0 We are 4 peas in a pod.\u00a0 Our favorite times are when we are all together.\u00a0 When one of us is missing, we feel it.\u00a0 My son gets very upset when his sister is gone for a sleep-over or doesn\u2019t come off the bus at daycare as he expects her to.\u00a0 My daughter, who was almost 7 at the time, got up with me in the night for the first few weeks after her brother was born.\u00a0 And she is now his personal tutor in everything.\u00a0 To have children that are best friends is more than parents can hope for.\u00a0 Even our initials spell a word, SLAP, this also happens to be our daughter\u2019s initials.\u00a0 How cheesy is that?<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not all rainbows and butterflies.\u00a0 My husband and I each come from traumatic backgrounds on opposite sides of the world.\u00a0 His was a war zone in Laos.\u00a0 Mine was a supposedly peaceful prairie existence.\u00a0 Nothing is as it seems.\u00a0 And how did I get here?\u00a0 While I was on maternity leave with my son I decided to take that year to really start to examine how I felt about different aspects of my life and the people around me.\u00a0 I really dug in and started to write to try to make sense of it all.\u00a0 And that start led me to where I am today and will hopefully continue to lead me in the direction that I am meant to go.<\/p>\n<p>My father was murdered in a home invasion on June 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 1976.\u00a0 The prairie was no longer peaceful.\u00a0 I was born on June 25<sup>th<\/sup>, 1976.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t quite figured out whether time is on my side or not.\u00a0 Time is very elusive and doesn\u2019t like to be pinned down for lengthy interrogations.\u00a0 Either you get it or you don\u2019t.\u00a0 And by the time you realize which one it is time is already long gone.\u00a0 And here I am still, after almost 35 years, trying to figure it all out.\u00a0 The offender and accomplice were caught and it was wrapped up in what appeared to be a neat package.\u00a0 But I am here to say there isn\u2019t anything neat about murder.\u00a0 It is ugly, messy and life-long.\u00a0 While this part of my life does not define me it certainly is a part of who I am, whether I like it or not.<br \/>\nI\u2019m writing this blog as a way to express and examine the things that I have learned along the way in hopes that I can provide myself some closure and help out someone else in the process.\u00a0 I have some serious work ahead of me and I want to get started.\u00a0 But first some ground rules.\u00a0 This is about learning how to be resilient, peaceful, and positive through adversity.\u00a0 I am not an expert on these subjects.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping we can learn them together.\u00a0 This blog is not to be negative or disparaging but uplifting.\u00a0 The people in this blog are loved, even if they are not perfect.\u00a0 It is not up to us to judge but to tell the story.\u00a0 And this is my story.<\/p>\n<p>~ A fatherless girl thinks all is possible and nothing safe. &#8211;
