{"id":47,"date":"2011-06-05T00:49:28","date_gmt":"2011-06-05T05:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/puzzle-peace.com\/?p=47"},"modified":"2014-09-10T21:56:55","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T02:56:55","slug":"my-boy-and-his-grandma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/puzzle-peace.com\/?p=47","title":{"rendered":"My Boy and his Grandma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I first told my Mom that we were having a boy she couldn\u2019t hide her slight disappointment.\u00a0 She said, \u201cWhat am I going to do with a boy?\u00a0 What am I going to sew for a boy?\u00a0 I still have too much pink and purple fabric to have a grandson.\u201d\u00a0 My Mom had 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters, not a boy in sight.\u00a0 Then he was born and she fell in love with him.<\/p>\n<p>Mom found that she really didn\u2019t have too tough a time finding things to make for him.\u00a0 PJ\u2019s, a stuffed taxi that he sleeps with, pillows, blankets.\u00a0 We just had to go shopping for different color fabrics.\u00a0 She enjoyed the challenge.\u00a0 And he enjoyed everything she made and still does.\u00a0 His baby blanket is his treasure.\u00a0 His PJ\u2019s are almost up to his knees and elbows but he refuses to give them up.\u00a0 They are Gamma pants and Gamma shirts.\u00a0 The two of them really started to bond when he was 2.\u00a0 Unfortunately that was also when she got sick.\u00a0 But, I think that it also sweetened their relationship.\u00a0 They had their routines of affection.\u00a0\u00a0 Little hugs and tickles.\u00a0 Sometimes she would be so sick and so tired but as soon as she saw him she would suddenly find energy and a smile.\u00a0 I would ask her if she was really sure that I should bring the kids and she would insist.\u00a0 She wanted every minute with them that she could get.\u00a0 I took them every Saturday that I could for over a year.\u00a0 And when he was being a \u201cnormal\u201d toddler and taking me to what I thought was the end of my nerves I would ask her, \u201cIs he ever going to grow up?\u201d\u00a0 She would smile and pat me on the shoulder and say, \u201cYes, Lisa.\u00a0 He will grow up.\u201d\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t trade those moments for anything.\u00a0 My son got used to going to Grandma\u2019s to the point of getting very upset if we didn\u2019t go to Grandma\u2019s on schedule.<\/p>\n<p>So when Mom passed away we weren\u2019t sure what to expect.\u00a0 Due to my son\u2019s issues with crowds and noise we didn\u2019t have him at the funeral.\u00a0 Even though I grew up and agree with the philosophy of children going to funerals.\u00a0 And I knew that this may make it more difficult to explain the situation to him.\u00a0 But we tried.\u00a0 And when we cleaned out her apartment I took him with me a few times so he could see that she wasn\u2019t there.\u00a0 He would curl up in her recliner with a sad look on his face.\u00a0 But he seemed to understand.\u00a0 He stopped asking to go to Grandma\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Then we went to Steinbach today, where my Mom lived.\u00a0 And we were just down the street from her last apartment and he asked to go for a walk.\u00a0 He wanted to go to Grandma\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0 I had a sinking feeling but knew this was an important walk.\u00a0 He led the way and walked into the parking lot and then started to run up to all the patios looking for Grandma.\u00a0 I finally had to stop him before he started knocking on doors.\u00a0 I sat on the curb and tried my best to explain to him that Grandma wasn\u2019t here anymore.\u00a0 Grandma is in heaven.\u00a0 She isn\u2019t here anymore.\u00a0\u00a0 But he was not satisfied.\u00a0 He kept searching.\u00a0 He walked up to the back door of the building and asked to go in.\u00a0 I explained again and he just hung his head and asked to see Grandma.\u00a0 I finally got him to walk around the building and we quietly sat on the bench for a while.\u00a0 He would turn and look at the door every few minutes waiting for Grandma to come out.\u00a0 Then he went into the middle of the sidewalk facing the doors and waited, staring at the doors willing them to open.\u00a0 All the while I was talking to him, trying to explain and comfort him. \u00a0He finally gave up, took my hand, and we walked back to the house we were visiting.<\/p>\n<p>When my Mom was sick I was determined that my son would remember her;
